The model for this was on display at Transworld last year. Neat concept but very expensive!

It looks great! I just wish it wasn't a nine hour drive to get there. :(

what is the 5th dimension?

I understand the concept of three dimensional space, as exising on the X, Y, and Z axes, but the concept of a fifth dimension seems non-sensical. :-?

I know when theme parks started adding smell and water effects and stuff to their shows they called that the 4th dimension...but I would say the 5th dimension would involve taste?! hahaha...grossss

From a story I read online, the "5th Dimension" is supposed to the interactive "shoot-em-up" aspect of the attraction.

Hmmmmm... I'd imagine that the overriding taste of a theme park would be "Cotton Candy Vomit".... :p

I think the 5th dimension is that you get to shoot the zombies. I actually live in Branson. I'll go check it out and post back with my review.

To fill you all in, I am going to Castle of Chaos tomorrow and as it turns out, it was implemented in Branson by a friend of mine so we're getting a backstage tour of how it all was done. I'll have a report up sometime tomorrow!

Okay, I have been to the Castle of Chaos! I got to ride it and then go backstage in the control room and see how it all works.

First of all, this ride is not scary in the least, except for possibly very small children and I don't think it's really intended to be. It's the next step to what Disney and Universal have been doing for years in regard to the 3D and 4D theater experiences.

The ride is essentially a spinning platform that rotates you rapidly in a circle and stopping on one of five screens that projects a 3D image with a few animatronics on the sides to enhance the scene. You have a gun and you shoot at the various creatures and what not coming at you and it tallies a score to display at the end of the ride. There are physical effects on your seat and within the theater that offer some cheap thrills. At a brisk seven minutes, the attraction is meant to take large groups of people through very quickly, but at $14.95 a person, I'm sure there are some disappointed customers. This is the sort of attraction that would work best at a theme park where a general admission ticket lets you ride it and other rides all you want.

If you have been to a recent tradeshow and seen "The House" display that Alterface has shown -- this is exactly that. They just renamed it for Branson. Because Alterface is based in Belgium one of the things mentioned was the expectation of American audiences to see Hollywood production values, which this does not have. What Alterface does have however is a cutting edge proprietary software that will take rides like this to the next level. The server bank housing the ride is impressive and the system is very intuitive of what's going on and knows when people are in their seats and even buckled.

So to sum up -- this is good start to something bigger coming down the pipeline. It's not there yet, but more than likely soon will be. The technology is there, but needs to be updated for American audiences to appreciate it.

And on a side note if anyone is interested, Branson's Haunted Adventure is currently shut down indefinitely due to the adjoining zoo and aquarium getting raided and shut down a few weeks ago. The animals within were not removed, but there were a lot of fire code issues (something we're all familiar with) that may keep the entire attraction from re-opening. It remains to be seen what will happen, but hopefully they will be able to open back up soon.
