Would anyone be interested in a new video if we made one? How to detail your haunted house, with all sorts of painting tricks, detail tips, theming idea's and stuff like that? I was thinking we haven't made a video / dvd in a long long time... was thinking about making one on how to detail your haunt. Let me know what you think!

If so what would you like to know how to do????

Who wouldn't want to purchase this DVD!? Any education/info that would better your haunt would be a great buy. There are many tricks of the trade that many of us do not know, or maybe we know the tricks but you found an easier way to do them. Even if we just learned one to two things from the video it would still be worth it! I will buying this DVD when you make it! One more thing..... Hurry up! Can not wait to see it!

I like the tips and tricks idea. I think sometimes we see some really great custom stuff being built out there by some home haunters/pros that make us scratch our heads on how exactly they did what they did because we would like to do the same or put our own spin on it. For example Eric over at Haunted Overload had posted how to make an undead horse a few weeks back:
http://www.enslin.com/rae/h.o./horse/horse01.html

I loved this and we at Grimlock Manor will certainly be trying to put our own spin on it. It was nice to see the process, know the materials and the steps. It's also nice to have a resource list of where to find what is needed and finally its great to see what you can make that looks like it cost thousands of dollars but maybe only cost you a few hundred.

It could be interesting to get a behind the scenes looks at some of the premier haunts as they re-theme for 2010..maybe a small peek at 1 or two new ideas and their thought process behind the theming. What makes a good theme, how do they begin their research for that theme and what resources do they find most helpful when purchasing materials to get started with the project.

I'd LOVE to see HPI do a video like this... oh, and absolutely NO haunt tours please... unless they're walking through and talking, in detail, on how they did this effects/technique etc. etc.

I'd focus this vid more on John, Jim and Kip talking about set detailing and painting! That would be amazing! -Tyler

How about adding some money saving tips as well like using and mixing free recylced paint, mixing home made sno machine juice, homemade web spinner fluid, homemixed fog juice, homemixed fire retardant and the list gos on and on . Just the sno machine tip saves hundreds $$$$ and is well worth buying the dvd

I would not suggest "homemixed fire retardant"... how would you have the UL licenses and testing REQUIRED by fire marshalls? Don't ever skimp on safety, pay the money and be happy when you pass fire inspection! -Tyler

I'm definitely interested Larry! I have all of Kevin McCurdy's DVD's and I'm always interested in more scenery and set design tips and tricks! I'd also like to see Tony at Spookywoods produce a DVD on constructing the incredible outdoor maze area he just completed this year and on his elaborate foam constructed facade! I think, as I believe was already pointed out here, specifics would be critical to the value of the DVD's, such as suppliers of foam, foam coating, and all other materials related to the set and facade construction, as well as step by step detailed instruction for implementing the various techniques. At any rate, I'd definitely be interested!;)

Some great ideas here for you Larry. Mind had a lot of ideas on what everyone might be looking for. Why don't you do a real detailed series from painting, foam carving and prep, gory props, etc. You could sell them separately or 5-6 as a package. You would make a killing at the show and help a lot of haunts out.

I am definately in, reserve mine.

Well, I was kind of holding out for the "Hauntworld All Nude Revue" DVD, but I guess a an instructional DVD will have to suffice.

The sign says:If you don't look at least 35 yrs. old we will be checking your ID!"
To be included in the all-nude Reveiw:"If you don't look at least 40 years old, we will be checking your ID!" (Don't want trouble over possible kiddy/porn!)
Of course such a requirement might be self defeating for the sales of such DVD.
?

Barring the all nude revue, I have a serious idea. How about letting different haunts do segments. I know most haunts add or redesign at least a few rooms a year. If you got a couple of them to film the work and do them as a ‘how to’ in the process, it would make a great DVD.
I would be willing to do one. One the rooms I’m redesigning this year would be perfect for it. It is going to be a room that we are remaking to have old antebellum look to it. It will incorporate various painting techniques, foam carving, decorating, prop building, furnishing and lighting. If you got several other haunts to design and construct a scene while going into detail on explaining how the details are done it would make a cool and informative DVD.

Lurker, thats a pretty sweet idea! Also, I would love to see a segment on how Netherworld sets up their "flyers". What type of harness they use and things like that. Like safety issues, how long they are able to stay in the harness etc.

Larry, I like the idea of the detailing DVD. Thats something all of us can use!

Would have alot to do with if the person in the harness really likes being hit with the leather whip or not.

Okay... post all the things you want to see in the video? If we where going to show you HOW to do detail work, what would you like to see specifically in this video...

Here is what I'm thinking...

1) Creating Gore

2) Painting Tips

3) Finding and Buying the RIGHT props for theming

4) Creating natural looking barriers (keeping people away from dangerous things with theming).

5) Foam Carving

6) Hardcoating techniques

7) How to design, how to research

8) Uses for Camo Net

Any other idea's... now is the time to do this video as we are theming every single day!

I think we might make this video, but it will probably be the last one we make at least for a long time! I'm going to sorta get out of the haunt business after this years Haunt Show for a while... you might see me sorta disapear for a bit! I'm going to give this haunt tour a 110%, the next few magazines a 110%, and then I'm going to take a LONG BREAK...

I have to do a TON of work on Hauntworld.com and the new magazine site and some other things all things I will get done prior to TW... after that I'm taking a LONG BREAK to write a screenplay.

I have a very creative mind that feels trapped right now and I can't think straight so I need some new outlets... I will simply fall into like a trance like state to write this screenplay I think it will effect me emotionally! Its a deep deep deep story... one I think when I'm done will be highly sought after in Hollywood! We'll see...

In order to write it I must disapear for a while... but I'll be back eventually!

I know what it will take for me to write this screenplay and I know I will be lost in another World trapped in my mind... LOL.

I've always enjoyed sharing my success stories, my failures, and my experiences with this industry! Good or bad I think I've tried to give as much as I could! I want to help people its fun! We'll see if we can make another video prior to this years show, and two magazines, update all of our sites, renovate The Darkness and run a great tour during the show.

We'll also do our best to help our vendors find new customers! After that I will be gone for a while... so lets get to work the clock is ticking!

Our industry needs to rebound from a so so to off year... lets go!

If we can get this video done and help haunts improve their detail it will be worth every second we take to create it!!! We haven't done a video in a long long time so help me out here and tell me what you want to see so we can see if we can get this done... I want to help as much as I can!

Last night we sat around for 8 hours trying to figure out how to get Darkness completed in time... and after we finally finished that conversation we started talking about making this new video.

We have finally agreed to do the video using stuff we are doing in the Darkness now as segments for the video. I will post a list of all the stuff we are going to cover later.

I don't have it because it was typed into someone elses computer in a big 10 page list of stuff to do... LOL It will be emailed to me later and I'll post it up here. I know we came up with some cool stuff though.

Any new or old ways of ageing things to make look old. Or distressing different things. Metal and other things. Anything new that you guys might be doing now far as detailing. Foam carving or making different things from foam. Like in your pics in this thread like the coffin/crypt and other things. If your duplicating your cemetary part like those pics you showed a while back of that over grown and untaken cared of cemetary I would like to see alot of that being put together. I love gothic scenes ect.
Thanks looking forward to getting the video!

Larry this would be an awsome DVD if put together right. Please do not make this like your "How to create a Haunted House" DVD which I was very disapointed it was more of a self promotion of your haunt and a few others. Look at this cool expensive haunt, no drool and oh her is an internet marketing tip. Not a whole lot of information that is usfull to someone wanting to get into the Haunt business especialy as a pro.

Now I don't want to diss you because if I could afford to have your company put one together for me I would but I want this to be A DVD you cant go without. A get into detail, step-by-step ,you too can make this happen DVD.

Please, no haunt tours! I said it before... but haunt tours on these DVD's suck and aren't worth it. The cameras used don't pick up the details needed to really show off the haunts!

I'd also love to see this a STRICTLY how-to detail a haunt vid... maybe even let your crew host/star in it! That'd be worth it! -Tyler

Larry

In a world where Uwe Boll is allowed to make terrible movies, why don't you just write and direct your own movie if you are into it. It has to be better than what he can do. It is amazing what can get made. How about you make "My name is Larry" or "Larry vs Frankenstein"(hopefully someone will get the reference). I am just messing with you, lol.

Larry,

remember to include John's techique for his "haunt food". He did the demo at the tour last year, people were interested but did not have time to view the entire process.

Definaite include it in any video.

Its cool how he does it! But I wouldnt do a long drawn out section on it. Heck its on youtube on that national geographic special "Haunt Tech." Even Kip gives an idea how his perma blood is made. But I guess you can put whatever you want on it. Make it a double disc if neccessary. LOL!
Can you please put chapters on this disk. So if you need to quickly go back on how to do something you can get to it quick. Without watching the entire video or fast forwarding through it all.
Thanks
