Hologram

This is another one of those ridiculous ideas that I am sure will never work but if someone out there has the recourses and time here's to ya.
Remember those hologram generators like in this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrYWfJ7nS3w?
Here is a picture of them:http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:PDAVha1dRO3BBM:http://gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/02/hologram_2.jpg&t=1
Here in Oklahoma, we built a snake room. This room had plexiglass floor with moving snakes underneath and creepiness all around. I though it would be cool to see a live snake via hologram generator. If you could make one big enough, the generator could be under the floor where guests walk. What they would see is a real snake hologram at actual size. Naturally there would be a plexiglass cover. Guests would be forced to walk towards a real snake on the floor. They would walk through a hologram.

If this were possible you can imagine the other things you can put inside to create a holographic scary image. If any of you are crazy enough to attempt this, first I will call you FRIEND, and second, here is a good place to start: http://www.greenpowerscience.com/

I jist saw one of these at a hobby shop in Indianapolis a few weeks back. The illusion is very convincing, but it was a small toy like the example that you postd. The illusion was only like fifteen dollars at the hobby shop.

I'd love to see one build an agrand scale, or even one the size to crate a human head. They effect of the small one is bewildering to the mind, to say the least.

To cointhe old phrase, "It's done with smoke and mirrors."

Neat concept, it certainly has gears turning.

I've thought about this before as well. I even wondered about using old satellite dishes but didn't really know how to get a good optical mirror surface onto them.

I had an idea this morning about this mirror. If someone could build a giant concave structure, call it a "dish", and maybe cut it into sections. This would make it possible to have dipped into chrome and then assembled for use. Sure there would be lines, but would that matter? If the dish is constructed accurately enough the reflections should still work.
For experimental reasons, take a black marker to the original toy (above) and draw lines inside it to see how it would react to holographic image.
For research on dipping in chrome just google "chrome dipping" in your area. Whomever you find should be able to help with pollishing and plating as well. If anyone does this please keep us informed.:p

Most chrome tanks are relatively small, I think big sattelite dishes that are covered in mylar would work and be more cost effective.

title sorry, "Inspiration"

I wonder if pollished brass or copper might even work.

After doing a little more research on this, check out this video I found...

I would steer clear of any university tech for a few years, there is no way its cost effective at this point, and they largely dont share tech.

I think this is exactly what you're thinking of, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnDA64insAw

I fist saw these in action last year at Netherworld. They inspired me to create a scene for Ben (who said he liked the idea). Here at the Hex House we will be buying a few for this season.
But, I feel that if someone can build the mirror, they should and post the results here.:)

It would be pretty neat to see, would have to be bulky for a life size snake, but it has potential. Ive never used the projectors, I only knew they existed. I hope you or someone figures out that idea you started on here! It'd be neat to see. :)

There is a 25" concave mirror up on ebay. I have to wonder if any of the companies that make the large convex mirrors for watching shoplifters would be able to do this on a large scale for a decent price.

I just found this video on youtube that shows a larger hologram toy being used. As I watched I see that angles will need to be worked out. But I am no less interested in this concept.

Does the cover have anything to do with the effect? Is there a reflective surface on the underside of the cover?
Thanks, Pete

Ok, I see how i works..
Here is a diagram.

If you are going to the Transworld show this year, make sure to see my lecture. The hologram will be the closing discussion. I have major changes and updates on this and the pepper's ghost illusion. I will talking about both along with a lot more. Imagine the pepper's ghost flying up to you and then you can put your hand right through it. Here is a link to my lecture ( I'm near the middle of the page (Andrew de Ruiter): https://registration.haashow.com/events/show/hs10#SaturdaySeminars
If anyone is interested in my black book of ideas you can finally download one before the lecture here: http://www.epubbud.com/book.php?g=EGQDK8HZ
I will make a more formal announcement regarding my lecture later.

Awesome, we have been experimenting with the peppers ghost over the years, but have never really been able to master it. My wife will love this seminar, we will definitely be signing up for this seminar. Not to mention being able to put a face to the man with all the great ideas !!!

I couldn't think of another place to post this info than in the original place where I came up with the concept.
Here's the funny part: The day I figured out how a hologram illusion could work on larger scale, is the very same day I was asked to do the lecture at transworld. That's strange right? So, since its the solution to our topic on this post I would hope that all of you that read this will join me there on Saturday at 2pm. Today, 2/25/14, I have shared the illusion with only one other person. So you guys will be the first people to see an actual ghost you can put your hands through.

Also, I will have some hard copies of my book at the convention. If you can't make it there, and want a copy, email me or download at the link.

Here is a link I just found that shows many ways that people have made them.
http://holography.wikispaces.com/

From this link you can see some easy to make holograms and maybe not so easy but most are not too technical.

While doing research for my upcoming lecture, I found this:

Skype is working on making 3D video chats. I remember Adobe Flash working on greeting cards that used holograms. Here is a link to the skype info:
http://www.casecrown.com/blog/2013/08/3d-and-hologram-skype/

Also, I found that Verizon has protected the name hologram for a future phone.
Hmmm hologram Skype and hologram phone...interesting!

Still, none of these are like mine! See you all in my lecture at Transworld!

We'll be adding a Halogram room this year. Our guys at Hightower are going to "sneak" a picture of a patron and we'll email it to the room up ahead. We'll be building a motion capture room with an actor doing the motion. When it's all said and done, the patron will come face to face with themselves in the room. If all goes as planned, it's gonna be epic

That sounds great! Without exposing how it's done (for now), If you are using a pepper's ghost (plexiglass, film, scrim etc) style 3d image to pull it off, please stop in to my lecture, my hologram is different with the added bonus of being able to walk through it is always a good thing. :)
-Wow, I just reread that, it sounds pompous...sorry about that.

Anyone have an "in" on rear projection holographic film?

Yes we sell projection film. Email me with what size you need and I can get you a price. It is very similar to the Musion eyeliner material so it can be expensive.
