Wood stain is pretty good, you can add some sawdust to it to really yuck it up.

Get how to detail your haunted house Dvd Part 1 and 2. I only have the first one and its great. Maybe Larry will give me the second one for the plug. LOL!

Here is what I was working on over the weekend. Its part of our house scene. There is a lot of borrowing from the How to Detail DVDs from Larry. They are worth the money to pickup.

I assume you mean the lathe slats? If so then get 5 gallon paint stirrers for small sections or rip 2x2s on a table saw.

I just used lathe. A bundle of 50 was $8 at Menards. If you already have a finishing nailer it really doesn’t add too much assemble time over a regular wall. Admittedly I have gotten away with not owning a table saw... for many years now.... this is one place ripping boards down might save me a buck...

Anywho, about 50% of the distressing I did there can be found in the How to detail your haunted house Dvds.

what's the scare in the room???

Did a kid's room about 10 years ago. I just had the front and two sides of a metal crib. Bolted it up against a wall that had an opening fro an actor.
Hung a curtain so it looked like a window behind the crib. Took a couple bungies across the open end of the crib and attached a sheet to the front of the crib and the the bungies. It had the appearance that it was a mattress. Attached a couple toys to the rungs so they "sat" on the mattress.

People came in and even if they thought the scare was coming from the crib they felt safe because there was that safe "barrier" of the mattress.
Figuring the actor could pop out of the curtain but you had over a two foot barrier of the mattress .

Actor came through the curtain and was able just walk right up to the front of the crib!!! It never failed to scare the crap out of everyone!!
People would ask "how did she walk through that crib????"

Hope you are able visualize the explaination!

I like the idea of having the actor able to get out to the edge of the crib.... great idea.....
