Hi guys,

I'm in the process of designing a type of egyptian tomb type room. I want the customers to be able to choose to go through tomb one or tomb two (both ultimately ending back up at the same place). The room is about a 12x12 room and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/pictures/suggestions of how to decorate this type of room with heiroglyphics etc. and what to use for the fronts of "tomb doors" to make it look realistic. Also, if anyone knows how to make a fairly simple sarcophagus (don't have the money to buy the high dollar ones) or what type of stuff to put in the room. Thanks in advance for help. I'm having a creativity brain freeze in this room and need some ideas.

Ohh, I think this would be a really fun room! For the sarcophagus, I would start with a wood and chicken wire frame and build up with paper mache to look like whatever sarcophagus guy you wanted. You could even inset plastic jewels from the craft store for scarab beetles, etc. Then spray out in gold and add heavy distressing and washed out color detailing.

Trim work for the room would be easy I would think. Just google egyptian tombs and get some inspiration. Some columns maybe with faux fire torches, etc.

My mind immediately went to the movie Stargate and the portal as a possible gateway. That might be a good movie to visit or revisit for some creative inspiration.

I LOVE mummies and all that good stuff and would love to do a room like that!!!!! So many ideas already....statuettes of cats and urns for the removed body parts....so cool!!!! Good luck to you!!!! :)

Some very nice looking styrofoam, carved "sarcophs" available at one time, maybe at a Transworld long ago?
It might take too much time to carve one from stone to make it look more original...no A-Whole customer would mess with it very much though.

I'll see if I can find some pics for you to see. ;)

If you put an upright sarcophogaus you just gotta have a mummy inside trying to get out. Also snakes and beetles everywhere. A sand floor, skeleton with a pith helmet on and a spear, the clay jars everywhere, lots and lots of cobwebs.

I thought the crew at Creatures Crypt did a great job on the Egyptian scene. Many of you might recognize the Pharaoh head Larry has now... Proud to have played my small part in these sets....

" I want the customers to be able to choose to go through tomb one or tomb two (both ultimately ending back up at the same place)."
So you want two different tomb rooms. I would add a sub theme to the egyptian theme in each room, like a snake motif in one room and a scorpion motif in the other, both animals have a deserty and egyptiany feel.

"The room is about a 12x12 room and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/pictures/suggestions of how to decorate this type of room with heiroglyphics etc. and what to use for the fronts of "tomb doors" to make it look realistic."
Several times I have used refridgerators for the stone sarcophogos (which holds the decorated coffin). Remove the hardware and cover in plaster soaked canvas or burlap and it looks great. The altar at terror on church st was a fridge.
Also get a projector and down load a heiro glyphic font like this one http://www.jimloy.com/hiero/font.htm then you can copy and paste your hants back story, a grocery list, curses against your old roomate what ever and it looks like heiroglyphics, from the document you make you can then project it on pink foam and drawit on with a sharpie first then with a soldering iron (fumes...ventilation...ya da ya da), A band of heiroglyphics about three feet wide and some borders and you will have some cool looking walls after you drybrush them and throw sand onto the wet paint.

"Also, if anyone knows how to make a fairly simple sarcophagus (don't have the money to buy the high dollar ones) or what type of stuff to put in the room. Thanks in advance for help. I'm having a creativity brain freeze in this room and need some ideas. "
things in the room, canopic jars, animal mummies (cats, dogs, crocs, monkies ) , iconic imagery like the scales of Maa`t and the eye of Ra, Snakes, scorpions, and scarabs could be good.
To make the scacophogos I would make a duct tape double of a person who is the right size and in the right position. then Id drywall joint compound over it (using a male manequin head for the head). then Id add detail with a hot glue gun then spray paint gold, then some more details with paint or colored hot glue.
