I have been approached by a friend to put on a haunted event in his parking lot.At first I thought it could not be done effectively, but as I think of it perhaps it can.Has anyone ever seen or done this type of event in a parking lot?I am talking about a haunted trail type event ,not a tent haunt.( I have no tent haunt experience). What are your thoughts?

Is there a trail around the parking lot or would you be building it all from scratch on the parking lot?

No trail.I was thinking about using Camo netting for trails, and making the theme appropriate for camo.Apocalyptic zombie military outpost kind of story. There is a bit of woods on one side and the building on the other. The building is not sprinkled, which is why it is not being used.Is this madness?

I've seen A "haunted house" that is not under a tent and is basically a stand alone maze with rooms built of exterior plywood panels and a camo netting top. It worked out pretty well in a parking lot and you could really build a facade on the front that kind of "blocks" out the back and you could make parts of it outside and parts of it inside the walls.

Oh, it's total madness. Lol I know from experience! Except I had the middle of a football field, not a parking lot.

I run a one night haunt at relay for life at Scsu, and The first year we made 4x8 and 8x8 wall panel frames out of 2x4's. Then wall rolls from hauntedprops.com for actual walls. It was HELL for just a one day event. Luckily, we found a sponsor to donate an inflatable scAIR haunt. If I was you, I would check out www.yourcustomhauntedhouse.com they sponsored us and the owners are really nice and EXTREMELY knowledgeable.

It is possible and it is profitable, and if you need actual help I'd be glad to help! My contact info is below :)

It's possible. Based on what I saw at a local amusement park last season, I'd say it's going to take some work but it is very much attainable. They did a corn maze type haunt and the walls were a mix of camo netting and corn stalks. While not believable setting-wise (a cornmaze in the middle of nowhere) they did a great job at building a maze without being in a real cornfield.

I seen a haunt that advertised more about the parking than the actual attraction! LOL! What does this tell you about this haunt?!

You could make a drive-through haunt. Just imagine it... Drivers of moving vehicles being suddenly terrified. What could possibly go wrong? ;)

But seriously, if you can't handle the work or expense of building walls and whatnot, you could always set up some kind of haunted show, or haunted festival in the parking lot. Could be a lot of fun, and profitable too.

A haunt here in the Dallas area called Dallas Scaregrounds does something like this in their parking lot, almost exactly to the theme you're talking about. You might see if you can contact someone from their haunt and get more info or pics.
