What is your definition of affordable? Do you need powered or unpowered outputs?
The two I have use the most
AP-16 from EFX-TEK http://www.efx-tek.com/topics/ap-16.html I have 36 of these running seperate audio to 72 speakers in my haunt. Every animatronic I build uses these.
If you don't need powered outputs, http://www.hauntbots.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66&products_id=188&zenid=cbfa5e9677f2dbde8bb2f776db0fee94 the MP3 player from Hauntbots is great as well. I have used these in several projects.

Go FrightProps all the way...

Yeah, I tend to lean towards the ones available from FrightProps, but I'm somewhat biased ;)
The BooTunes has 8 trigger inputs to trigger different tracks and line-level out (http://www.frightprops.com/sound-audio/digital-audio-players-and-accessories/bootunes-mp3-player-0844.html)
And the new BooTunes Amped that has a built-in 50w amplifier (http://www.frightprops.com/sound-audio/digital-audio-players-and-accessories/bootunes-amped-mp3-player.html)

Gadget, I decided to use the WAV runner with the APC8. Thank you to all who responded. Under 110 was my goal, and the WAV runner got me there.
Thanks to all again :)!

It depends on what you mean by audio repeater.
I think you mean a device that just repeats a recording- probably amplified output.
If so- then just try and beat this!
12vdc (power supply not included normally)
sd memory card or usb stick
automatically plays and loops on power-up
they come in a LOT of different "flavors" just search around...
However if you need triggering or other more complex features, then this is not what you want
Wav Runner is a good choice. I have several of them in our haunt, and they work flawlessly. Simple to use, and they come on as soon as you power up. I even use some of them with triggers on our Camp Nightmare Tram.
