Are you one of those haunt owners from Detroit or heck Flint... read this article which lists Detroit the most miserable city in America and Flint second. This caught my attention because Detroit is sorta the haunt captial of the United States due to the overwhelming amount of haunts in that city.

Old cities use to have so many haunts like even St. Louis but most of those building have been redeveloped into condo, lofts or whatever. I guess Detroit still has a lot of those old buildings laying around.

How many haunts are in this city and is it really that bad?

There are few if any actual haunts within the city of Detroit. Most of the haunts are in the suburbs. Metro Detroit Area is the haunt capital of the US simply because there are about 60 haunts within a 60 mile radius. Some are good, most are bad. Either way there are a lot of choices for customers. Most good haunts see an average of around 10,000 customers per season. That is a lot when you consider how much competition there is. Deadly Intentions borders Detroit, just on the other side of 8 mile. We are the closest house to Detroit.

We have great customers that come from both the city and surrounding suburbs. They all seem to enjoy the haunt. Some people complain that it's too dangerous to come out to our location. The simple fact is that in the 5 years we have been at our location, we have never had any major security problems. We had tons of problems at previous locations further north of Detroit.

Detroit always gets a bad rap. It stems in part from the mismanagement of city leaders over the past 30 years or so, including the current mayor who is a crook and will probably be run out of office. We had horrible publicity for years on all the Devil's Night fires but they have that pretty much under control the past few years. Also, it is true that the down sizing and closing of many factories have hurt the city.

I have met thousands of people who live in the city. Most are hard working, productive members of society. But a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. There is much urban blithe within the city which contributes to the very high crime rate. Most of the crime in Detroit is in some way related to drugs.

However, there are a lot of great things about the city as well. We have the best sports teams and fans in the world! GO WINGS! GO TIGERS! GO PISTONS! I guess I have to mention the Lions as well! We host the largest auto show in the world. We still have the big three headquartered in Detroit. We have a great downtown area which host some amazing ethnic festivals. We have the largest 4th of July fireworks display in the country, which we share with our good friends to the north, (Canada.) We have 3 great casinos. Some of the most amazing restaurants of every type.

All in all, Detroit has many problems. It needs good leadership, with a strong plan on how to fix things. They need to get rid of all the crack houses and start cleaning up the neighborhoods. I still have faith that someday things will turn around and Detroit will once again be a strong thriving metropolis that people will want to live and work in. But it won't happen overnight.

Just my 2 cents,

I have to agree with everything Howie has said. He hit the head of the nail on that one. I live about 15 miles north of Detroit. There are soooo many haunts to choose from around here. Most of all are in good areas of metro Detroit. I have visited Deadly Intentions many times which is located very close to Detroit. And I have to say I did not feel threatened at all. There are some parts of Detroit I would not walk around in. But the downtown part is very nice.

well said Howie, although with all the positives noticed, BodyBag Entertainment is a Detroit based Company, I grew up in Cass corridor, moved on to southwest once I was old enough, it went from bad to worse over the years. Personally I have no problems with Detroit, BUT I also steer any visitors and friends from out of state, outside of the citylimits.
And Bill for the record, THERE ARE PLACES IN DETROIT that I STILL WONT WALK AROUND!

THERE ARE PLACES IN DETROIT that I STILL WONT WALK AROUND!

If you remember a phone one morning last year, when I asked you where I was?
I was on a DVR CCTV repair?
If I remember right, you told that I should turn around, you shouldn't be there.

Same here body, like for example never walk or even drive on Gratiot past 8 mile. I did that once couple years ago coming back from Mexican Town over by the bridge. I-75 was all backed up so we decided to take Gratiot all the way up home. NEVER AGAIN! hahaha

And Vegas was just listed as the "fattest" by Men's Health Mag.!!!

Maybe it has something to do with all the Buffets!!!

Sometimes these "statistics" do not paint a true picture.
Take crime levels. Vegas is judged on the amount of reported crimes
against the listed population. Problem here being that ONE convention can come into town and the actual number of people increases instantaneously
by 150,000!!! Are they factored into the crime statistics???
Absolutely not!!

Sometimes a "study" is about as valuable as the paper it's written on!

RJ let me tell you I lived in Detroit my whole life, for the most part, and I was never ever so violated as the time that the MonteCarlo Hotel, compromised my DebitCard number within seconds of me checking in. If that wasnt bad enough the response from the police and security forces, were all like wow thats never ever happened before........ Yeah IM sure NO -ONE steals in vegas!

I would have been sooooooooooo screwed had I not brought a pocket of Cash , knowing that I would never take my card out of my wallet other than check in.

What totally amazed me was the fact that I would have never taken myself as a mark...... wow Lesson Learned!

"Figures never lie, but Liars always figure."
I freely heard this pearl of reknowned wisdom as I walked down a hallway at a locaL jR. College. The people sitting in the room paid to learn this! I didn't !
I think I should have bought some books with old sayings in them, memorized them and began teaching college..."Where's my check?"
I could double my salary and work in the lunchroom, I could be the "Dean" of Milk!
Yes, that's my big semi , full of Dean's Milk!

Heya Damon, I was in Vegas, debuting a new energy drink icon character, I had my Card out of my wallet for less than a minute during check in at the Montecarlo hotel, I paid CASH for everything in VEGAS, within minutes of putting my Card back in my wallet, my number was being used all over vegas, ....
The cops pretty much laughed it off, the MonteCarlo just shrugged their shoulders and gave me the run around. Funny thing is they tried to make it sound like I spent the funds...... Yeah lets see..... I dont need hairweaves at the local korean wig shop, I dont Gamble, I dont drink, I dont smoke, so all those charges make no sense........... But yeah Bad experience at the MonteCarlo.....
this year when checking in, I will alert my bank, that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES shall my Card be honored in VEGAS!
seriously they had cards with fraudelent names on them.... within minutes.... Amazing!
