I dont want to be a "Chicken Little", but...

So I left Vegas around noon and on the shared ride to the airport, a few people on the ride were talking about how TW has changed their minds and are NOT going to Chicago after all. They are moving to Houson because Rubies and a few other companies refused to go. Anyone know if this is true? I asked these people 4-5 times to confirm and to make sure I was not getting the facts wrong or mistaken...

Ron,

I just called Transworld and they are not leaking any information right now. She said she has received several calls concerning rumors, but she cannot reply with an answer. She said to keep checking the website for any updates.

LOL, all this intrigue! Yesterday when I heard this story, I contacted someone whom I thought would be able to confirm. They did confirm that the hallowen part is pulling out but kind of made me believe the haunt part will be in Chicago in Jan. LOL I feel like such an old lady spreading gossip....!!!

I would say that they really honestly don't know yet. I have helped organize events much smaller than this and when it's over you're just glad it's over. You need a little time to unwind and sort through things. You don't want to rush into a big decision based on the comments of a relative few.

xxxdirk, I heard the same thing.
I believe a split will happen and the haunt part will be in Chicago.

If TW is moving to Houston in '09 then why did they already have huge signage and postcards all over the exhibit halls with "Transworld '09 Chicago"?

I guess no one read my post on the other thread... LOL

Anyway that is not true. There are power brokers on the other side trying to create a new show if anything they might change their minds and go to Chicago.

Transworld could change their minds and keep with March in Vegas.

Who knows.

But I said in the other post you'll have to wait about 6 weeks to let everything shake out ... but something is going to happen and trust me you'll find out.

I just wouldn't make any plans to go anywhere yet.

The only thing that I heard in Vegas was that Rubies and some other companies didn't want to go back to Chicago. I also heard that the Union out in Vegas was pretty bad so I am hoping they move somewhere else for these vendors!

Transworld the company has to be the most unorganized, screwed up, un professional company I have ever heard of! 1st they move to Vegas, then have banners and postcards all over the place saying Chicago and the PRESIDENT come on stage and announce Chicago, and then within the span of 3 days change their minds? It is one screwed up company. They claim they did not know about Rubies booth size and their show & other stuff, then they are idiots! If they go back to "Suckas" I am not going. Too much money for cabs and food and too much BS.

I will spend my 09 money at Hauntcon and MWHC and tell TW to shove it!

Since I just left Vegas I'm in a betting mood.

I bet I'll see you all in Vegas before Chicago.

Of course I'm just playing the odds :p

Transworld has told me they're going to Chicago 2009 not Houston and not Vegas. But I heard a rumor that they've already paid a deposit on Vegas, and will cancel Chicago. But I haven't heard a word about them moving to Houston.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR... they are NOT going to Houston. I talked to the guy who runs the show in Houston, and he said they tried to get more space but can't. They only have 300,000 square feet and the TW show is about 5 to 600k.

Transworld is NOT going to Houston!

Halloween and Party Expo I think.

And TW has nothing to do with the thing, and the hall is too small for the show TW produces so seriously TW isn't going to Houston. Larry

I hope that Transworld people are reading this thread and Halloween Costume peopole as well. I know the reason stated in something I read in a Halloween industry mag I picked up in Vegas said the costume people like Rubies and a bunch of the rest of them want to meet in January and are going to Houston. They do not want haunters. The article even said one of the associations of the costume people are putting pressure on the vendors saying their members will boycott their companies and not purchase from them if those vendors have booths in Chicago. (I guess we are not alone in the dissention area huh?)

One rumor I heard was that TW had gone to Vegas to get better pricing from Rosemount and was trying to whipsaw Vegas and Chicago. Remember they don't pay for the shipping and drayage fees the vendors do. And don't neccessarily blame the unions here either people. The prices are marked up tremendously by both locations as extra profit.

The January time frame is what the costumers want. The Consumer Electronics show and the porn convention as well as many others are already booked in to Vegas for many years. That is why TW in Chicago in January is happening. The split in the costume people is pretty significant because Rubies, Dusguise, and al lthe big guys are saying they are going to Houston.

Here is an alternative,

Beginning in 2008, the Indianaplois Convention Center will undergo a dramatic expansion that will grow the convention center from 403,000 to 747,000 square feet of exhibit space when completed in 2010, including 183,000 square feet of exhibit space in the new Lucas Oil Stadium when it opens in August 2008.

Already taking shape is Lucas Oil Stadium, a multi-use, all-weather venue that will feature a retractable roof. When completed in August 2008, the stadium will seat 63,000 for football games and other events. It also will feature 12 meeting rooms and be connected to the Indiana Convention Center via a climate-controlled walkway. Click here for the Lucas Oil Stadium construction webcam.
Once the stadium is completed, the RCA Dome will be demolished, clearing the way for expansion of the Indiana Convention Center. When completed in 2010, the Convention Center will feature 83 meeting and ballroom spaces and 564,000 square feet of exhibit space.
Overall, the stadium and convention center expansion will give Indianapolis a facility that has 747,000 square feet of space for trade shows and 131,000 square feet of meeting space. It will be the 16th largest facility in the country, but physically connected via skywalks to more hotel rooms (4,700) than any convention center in the U.S.

And when it is in Indy, we can do a great Haunt Tour.

Hey Indianapolis would be a great location as well, always wanted to go there...Wouldn't mind seeing a colts game there, maybe making a detour to visit French Lick, birthplace of Larry Legend!!! I think it would still be centrally located to a large part of the industry...

I go to Trasworld for more then the Haunt side of things. I have a retail store, so I spent more time out of the haunt show then I did in. This is a trade show, they don't come to sell 1 or 2 items ... they are setting up customers to sell pallets of things to. These people don't want to give out catalogs and info to everyone, because this stuff costs money to produce. Plus they want to talk to serious buyers. So I can kinda see their point.

On the opposite side is the Haunt Show, where they do sell you the 1 or 2 items to anyone. This is the ohhh ... ahhhh .... neato side. You're not going to buy more then one of something from any of the large prop vendors. They also are not there doing a lot of wholesale biz, more show retail. Most of your gift shops are not buying from these guys, it's your serious haunts that are.

Back to tradeshow .. I like in Vegas because 90% of my FOB's are in the western US!!! That means a lot when trying to get the most GP on your items.

My thoughts on it? Anyone?

Vegas is an expensive town but it has a huge convention center and anyone who's anyone in the buyers market wants to go to Vegas for a convention/trade show/etc. and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a sort of rotating show within the next few years.

However, glad to hear that Houston is out of the question because if you want to talk about the armpit of America, look no further. I've been there several times its a great place provided you like your junk sticking to your leg or your cleavage sweating so much it'll look like a water fountain (take your pick ladies and gents). The smell is great and while you're out there take a quick drive to go see death row.

Houston is the sole I won't be at HauntCon.

If they publicized at TW with signage and big annoucements that 2009 is in Chicago they should just keep it in Chicago 2009 and spare themselves the embarrassment... WHILE finding a CENTRALLY LOCATED/CHEAPER/better-weather odds, place (like Indy or St. Louis) for 2010. Orlando is probably booked up for 2009 and it's so far for everyone/most people. Just my .02

l agree with JamBam. Indy would be a great place to have the show. If you ever been down town Indy you will find it a beautiful place to visit. Lots of places to eat, people are friendly and lots of things to see. Located somewhat central of the
states and the weather should not be a factor.
Everyone had their two cents, l thought l would throw in mine. Hope that's ok with you all.
