This may sound stupid, but are actors paid at least minimum wage?

Or is there some other kind of arrangement?

I didn't realize this would be such a tricky question. Is this a non-tax thing that no one wants to tackle for fear of reprecussions from the IRS.

At our haunt the actors become employees so yes we pay at least minimum.

Seems there are three basic takes on this issue.
one: you hire employees and are subject to the labor laws in your state.
two: volunteer force and you can "tip" them as you choose
three: independent contractors. This is a fine line to walk. Under $600.00 in total payout per actor is a good place to start. But there are very strict limits to how much control you have. Refer to local labor laws for definitions. If there is ever a problem (injury or unhappy camper) you had better be tight on this because the labor board typically favors the employee. General adage is " if looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck: its a duck!" You don't really want to be on the wrong side of that one.
