That is sweet! I love a good mad scientist lab. No matter what story line we work around each year I always work a mad lab scene in there. It is a must.

Hey Ben, that's some tight design! outstanding!

I'm curious what you use in your liquid elements? And, if it you've ever used rhodamine dye? There are several colors of flouroscene dye that can be staged under black light to get amazing effects. These dyes are completely non-toxic and are used in hydrology studies of karst plains. In rural areas they'll dump some into your kitchen sink then check the streams and local aquifers to see if you're drinking your waste water.

The only open question with this material is how long it holds it's glow, that I don't know. 'Some guys I know' dumped two ounces of it into a fountain at a college once and it glowed bright neon green all morning until the school shut it off. harmless color to water.

Wow, that would be the perfect place to get a scare. There's just so much FREAKIN' AWESOME work in there to distract patrons. Like always, you did a great job. I know for sure, if I had just ONE room that looked that amazing in a haunt in my area, it would be considered the #1 haunt. Most of the haunts around here settle for stuff from Wal-mart's, Dollar Tree's, and Oriental Trading's Halloween section. This room is just so well detailed.

Ben,
Great work as usual. To anyone who has never been to Netherworld, you have no idea what you are missing. His haunt is what has inspired me to open mine next year! I have been driving over an hour one way to his haunt several times each season for years, and I always leave inspired and entertaineed. His haunt is what a haunt should be!

Kudos to you and your team Ben.

No one should ever question why you are always in the top 10 best haunts. You have an awesome group of people. Someday we will make it there. Wonderful job!!

Thank you all!
I will pass on the comments to the crew!

One of the Tubes has blacklight reactive additive from Wildfire. The other looks like blood. Both have UV and Colored LEDs aiming down in them. The device has pumps and fills or dumps the water depending on how the levers are set. Jeff Lister made it for us and we altered its appearance.

Thanks again!

Looks good, is this part of your main haunt or a secondary haunt?

Speculo
07-11-2009, 09:39 AM
This is the entry into the main haunt, this year called Bloodnight. The concept is that the device is a Time/Space/Stargate type thing that transports the guests to this years themed location. Once you go through that you end up in the ruins of a vampires castle and you go from there.

The last two years it was a museum type area. This vortex is short, only 8 feet long covered with bolts and arcane symbols, but the two 4 foot sections spin in different directions, and combined with some laser effects and other lighting it looks pretty cool.

The spinning thing in the machine is a Scarefactory "skeleton tornado" a viewport into the NETHERWORLD, a veritable sea of the dead.

A bit later in the show you get to our real Vortex, 2 20 footers next to each other with a 2-3" clearance so you see clear span for 40' In that one we spin the second one faster in the same direction as the first so it sort of has that whirlpool effect where the deeper you go the faster it gets. Guests still love those things, especially the long one!

Thanks!

wow...looks insane! is that vacu-form in there or styrofoam? Good job Ben and Billy!

Speculo
07-20-2009, 07:49 PM
The 16 foot wall on the side of the machine is Vacuform with additions, especially lots of rust and texture.

It was actually used in the movie VIRUS, and had been stored outside for many years. It took a lot of fixing to make it usable, wood and foam backing, lots of patching.

Thanks!
