I was searching for any old threads dealing with background sounds and Im sure this has been brought up before but I couldnt find it.

What are any of your opinions on the difference between sound effects vs. musical tunes for your over all background? Do some of you use a combination of both? I like to use sound effects thoughout the entire haunt for my background. Meaning sudden loud effects with jolting startles that you can feel right through your bones. I've never been a fan of musical tunes for my haunt and Im not saying there is anything wrong with this, its just my opinion. Trouble is, Ive been using the same thing every year for several years now and Im needing something new. Any opinions or suggestions???

I can see you in my scareview mirror and agree that audio design is a crucial aspect of the haunt experience. Whether ambient, triggerd, or scored sound could separate a good haunt from a great haunt.

I'd seen this technology a year or so ago. An effective haunt sized unit can be had for less than 2000 USD. These devices are basically a reverse of the domed shotgun mics you see on NFL sidelines. These are hyper focused audio speakers. Having someone mounted high enough to get clear shots from 30 to 50 feet could add huge dimension to que lines and in haunt scenes.

Intro units aren't that expensive and have xlr hook up. The one in the vid is on around the 7th floor of this bldg. so it's shooting at least 140' to 240' lineal to a hear zone. Pretty amazing effect.

The complicator is ambient channel competition, would it work in a noisy haunt? It works fine on this city street - you are getting capture straight from the camera mounted mic.
