i guess it has something to do with childhood experience...i personally dont find clowns scary at all, however my sister in law is scared to death of them...she attributes it to the movie "it"...i am developing a clown character but am having some difficutly with it because i dont know what is scary about clowns...to me it is like being scared of the easter bunny or santa claus...

I think scary clowns and clown scenes are a lot of fun, that might be because my favorite comic book villian is The Joker, so whenever I am thinking about clown scenes I always envision it being the Joker doing the scare.

You mean everyone wasn't influenced , being askceered of clowns from Jimmie Stewart's acting as the clown in "The Greatest Show On Earth", he was a con on the run and we never got to see his face not in greasepaint in the movie, he was really hiding out!
Criminals hiding as clowns!!!! Clowns hiding as politicians! Yikes!!!

Dark-
On more than one occasion at The Baxter Avenue Morgue, after I've finished my introduction and am getting ready to hit the concealed switch opening the door leading into the dark recesses of the basement, I've had customers look at me and ask in a trembling voice, "There aren't any clowns in there, are there?! Clowns SCARE me!!"

Forget the re-animated corpses, the wandering spirits and the assorted homicidal lunatics roaming the darkness inside, just DON'T let there be any clowns!!!

Sincerely,

Warren Vanderdark;
Owner & Head Mortician,
The Baxter Avenue Morgue,

I say "QUIT YER B*TCHIN AND WHINING AND TAKE THE BALLOON ANIMAL FROM THE NICE MAN!!!!" lol

There's SO MANY hilarious captions that could go with that pic....perhaps we should see who can create the funniest captions for it lol.

Just my two cents

Maybe Freud would say it's an arctypal image left over from our forefathers a fear already developed and reinforced by war paint on faces of the various tribes throughout history as they went to war trying to be as scary as they could make themselves ?
We paint shark mouths on airplanes?
I guess making a scary war-face with crap smeared on your face is easier than trying to make ugly kids with some big, ugly woman? (You traded from another tribe just over the hill that did not correctly assess her military genetic potential.)

BUNNIES!

Jim Warfield
06-26-2006, 01:46 AM
Tony were you at Transworld this last time?
"Bunnies" was the first thing saw walking into the floor area, otherwise tagged as "Traditional Halloweem Costumes" or something like that?
And yes they were being occupied by breathing females who were obviously from some other planet.
(I broke the spell from their powerfull Hypno-Ray and continued on passed them into the show.)
"I am in control of myself."
"I AM in control of myself!"
"I am in Control of Myself!"
Was that Adam Drendel who just kept circling them as if his one leg was 3 inches shorter than the other one?
"Call the janitor to bring the floor buffer, this spot needs resurfacing now."

Ohh, I'm sorry that I didn't know it was Steve V. from HC - that pic of him?? Well, I found it via Google search engine because I was looking for some fear clowns.

Jim Warfield
09-13-2006, 10:08 PM
So many people use the google search engine, but who's going to be responsible when it throws a rod because nobody ever checked the oil?
Was it invented by Barney Google?
With the "Goo-Goo, Googlie eyes?"
Or was his sister who was a go-go dancer?
OK, I admit it I'm just siting here waiting for the phone to ring.
If it rings and everything works out I'll post about it because it could be a very different thing happening here tonight.

We had a clown a few years ago and OMG what a reaction we got. We had people refuse to enter because they saw the clown, we also sent many people out crying. I never relized how many people are afraid of clowns. All I have to say is thanks "IT" because now we have something that works as good as a chain saw guy! We def are using the clown for this season!

How can you describe for me how your clown looked?

Jim Warfield
09-14-2006, 08:02 PM
Maybe people are afraid of clowns because of Jimmy Stewart as a clown in "The Greatest Show On Earth", the old circus movie, Jimmy played the part of a criminal on the run dressed and hidden as a circus clown, maybe this even inspired Gacy?
I never knew SO MANY people lived near John Gacy!
When they look at my crawlspace exhibit here this is what I would hear:"I used to live across the street from him."
"I used to live around the corner from him."
"I used to be his neighbor."
I did believe my ex's friend Carol who said she had served Mr. Gacy coffee at 2 am in the place she used to work, and a couple of times he was wearing his clown make up!
One of her classmates had been one of his victims too.
And don't forget boys and girls, John Gacy was the Illinois JC of the year, then he moved to Iowa and was the Iowa JC man of the year there too!
I bet he was dressed as a clown in some JC haunted houses.
I wonder if everybody came out that entered those haunts?
Somebody could do some research and then hang a sign on the old haunted house concerning a real serial-killer once haunted here!
Life immitates art?
Who is Art immitating? Shela?

Very recently the subject of "Clown-a-phobia" came up when a woman going through my house said that she was terrified of clowns.
She later told me why.....when she was 13 she woke up one night with a clown ceramic figure (about a foot tall) next to her head in bed, talking to her!
Her Mother was doing this as her idea of a joke or else some way of scaring the girl to discpline her.
The woman did this to her daughter more than just once or twice.
Surprisingly when I asked her if she has any sort of a relationship now with her Mother she said that they are "best friends"!?
Usually when I am told such similar stories it has the Father as the bad guy and then the daughter has no relationship with him at all, no communication, nothing.
I don't like to make fun of people who have such problems, there but for the grace of God go you or I.

Must be a lot of people scared of clowns. They even have a name for it - Caulrophobia.

Not sure, but I think I heard somewhere that the purple one himself, Prince, suffers from this. There was a story about him refusing to be somewhere because of Ronald McDonald was there.

Personally, even a super-sized Ronald McDonald wouldn't scare me, yet for years a tiny spider did. Over that now though, but phobias can be a funny thing.

Hey,
That is why everyone should buy a Gore Galore Squeaker the clown costume.
If clowns are scary then big clowns 7' tall and 4' wide will cause your customers to wee wee on themselves.
Haha.

We have a layaway plan. You send us the money and we Lay it on a pallet, and send it to you.

Payment plans for a monster costume is totally understandable, paying for and pursuing things that get introduced into one's body that destroy the body, now that is weird and unimaginable to me, since I only have one body to get me through this life!

Just FYI...

We're doing a NEW haunted house 3D clown theme for 2007 at our SiloX location... don't have a name for it yet but it will be Killer Clown theme for sure. We have tons of photos on our site of clown themed 3D panels we've done for haunts across the nation.

You can check them out at www.halloweenproductions.com

Once I get the new art done for our 3D haunt I'll post some!
