Is 100 sqft a good estimate for a large animatronic such as an Impaler?

    Impalers foot print is 6.5ft x 6.5ft.
Height is 10ft sitting and 13ft standing.

I just remembered his arm comes swinging out , you would need a foot print of 8ft x 8ft. A 10 by 10 area would be fine depending on how dramatic you want his scenery..............BUT, keep in mind you also need to add space in frront of him if you want him away from your patrons, so they cant touch him or vise a versa...............

10x10 is just enough for the animatronic, But not enough to really display it. If the guests are to close to it then they wont see the whole thing and wont get the effect, Depending upon entrance and exit points I think a 20x20 room is good for him.
I have mine in his own room and he is viewed through several large holes in the wall. As the guests walk around the room he is in the holes get bigger and they get better views of him.
The further away they are the better they see him.

You need to redirect your view point. It's not the fragility of the animatronic to be concerned with, but that of the viewer.

I agree with Alan and Karl. The bigger the better.

So if a Impaler warrants 400sqft to be seen properly how about a prop who covers 108sqft? Does it need around 900 sqft?

that depends, it depends on the layout and design of the prop. Once "Impaler" was mentioned many of us could pitch in because we had knowledge of it- just a foot print doesent tell us enough.
